Week 2 Research topic 2 Racism

The definition of racism

"racism, also called racialism, the belief that humans may be divided into separate and exclusive biological entities called “races”; that there is a causal link between inherited physical traits and traits of personality, intellect, morality, and other cultural and behavioral features; and that some races are innately superior to others." - Britannica

With this Racism is discrimination based on the "different physical traits" that people from different ethnic groups have between each other.

There is a lot of history that involves Racism as a driving force to indoctrinate people to believe in a certain way.

Some of these Historical tragedies from recently are

-The Holocaust

-9/11

-Trumps Election

The Holocaust

The Jewish people were blamed for the loss of world war 1. Hitler used them as a object to point the hatred and frustration from the First World War and the economic depression from the Wall Street crash to prop him up into power. They were also used to promote the "Aryan agenda" during Hitlers campains whcih further increased the hatred in Germany towards the Jewish people. Another attrocity that happened was they the Jewish people had been started to be sent to concentration camps which saw the death of approx 6 million jewish people.

9/11

9/11 was a historical tragedy that had occured on september 1st 2001. "In the post-9/11 period, there was a lot of fear about Muslims and terrorism in the United States and so we created all these new opportunities to surveil citizens and harass citizens and even entrap citizens in our desire to fight terrorism," said Sally Howell, director of the Center for Arab American Studies at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

Hate crimes against Muslims rose 1617% from 2000 to 2001, according to the FBI marking some of the highest numbers of Islamophobic hate crimes ever in the U.S.

Trump Election

FBI data show that since Trump’s election there has been an anomalous spike in hate crimes concentrated in counties where Trump won by larger margins. It was the second-largest uptick in hate crimes in the 25 years for which data are available, second only to the spike after September 11, 2001.

"Make America Great Again" Originally used in a positive term to boost jobs and give people hope by Ronald Reagan was later reused by Donald Trump and people used that term for cause for Hate crimes.
